Flags of Japan and Mongolia waving against a blue sky - Japan E-Tourist Visa requirements for Mongolian citizens

Japan E-Tourist Visa for Mongolia Citizens

The bond between Mongolia and Japan is famously strong, symbolised by the legendary Sumo Grand Champions (Yokozuna) hailing from Mongolia. Beyond sports, Japan is a primary destination for Mongolian citizens seeking high-quality medical care, business opportunities in the used car market, or simply exploring the beauty of Kyoto and Mount Fuji.

In 2026, the Japanese government allows eligible Mongolian citizens to apply for the Japan E-Tourist Visa. However, Mongolian passport holders (Group B) cannot apply individually directly to the MOFA website. Applications must be processed through an Authorized Partner Agency. Our platform acts as your digital bridge, managing this mandatory process via our accredited partners in Japan.

Quick Overview for Mongolia Citizens

  • Visa Type: Japan E-Tourist Visa (Temporary Visitor)

  • Processing Time: 9–15 Business Days

  • Visa Fee: $100.00 USD (All-Inclusive Service Fee)

  • Application Method: Online (Processed via Authorized Partner in Japan)

Traveling from Mongolia to Japan (Flight Routes)

Connectivity from Ulaanbaatar to Japan is direct and convenient.

  • Direct Flights (MIAT / Aero Mongolia): MIAT Mongolian Airlines operates regular direct flights from Chinggis Khaan International Airport (UBN) to Tokyo (Narita) and Osaka (Kansai). Flight time is approx. 5–6 hours.

  • Via Seoul (Incheon): A very popular alternative. Many travelers fly via Korean Air or Asiana, transiting through Seoul before heading to various Japanese cities like Fukuoka or Sapporo.

  • Time Difference: Japan is 1 hour ahead of Mongolia.

Critical Arrival Note: Japanese immigration is strict. Ensure you have your "Visa Issuance Notice" (displaying the "Issued" status) ready on your mobile browser before you approach the inspection counter at Narita.

Financial Insights: MNT to JPY

The Mongolian Tughrik (MNT) is not widely convertible outside Mongolia.

  • Cards: Visa and Mastercards issued by Khan Bank, Golomt Bank, or TDB (Trade and Development Bank) work in Japan, but you must unlock them for international use via your banking app.

  • Currency Exchange: Do not bring MNT cash to Japan; it is almost impossible to exchange. Buy USD or JPY in Ulaanbaatar before your trip.

  • Cash is King: While Tokyo stores accept cards, rural hot springs (onsen) or ticket machines often require Yen cash.

Visa Payment: Our portal charges the $100.00 USD fee. You can pay using your international debit/credit card. See our Visa Types and Prices page.

Japan E-Tourist Visa Cost & Processing Time

As a "Group B" applicant, your file undergoes a strict review process by our partners and the Japanese authorities.

  • Service Fee ($100.00 USD): This covers the Authorized Partner handling fee, document verification, and digital submission.

  • Timeframe: 9 to 15 Business Days.

  • Refund Policy: Applicant information is shared with authorized partner agencies for processing. Once the application is submitted to the agency, the service fee is non-refundable, regardless of the outcome. See our Refund Policy.

  • Valid Mongolian Passport: Must be valid for the duration of your stay.

  • Digital Photograph: White background, no glasses.

  • Financial Proof: A bank statement (e.g., from Khan Bank or State Bank) showing sufficient savings to cover your trip. This is a critical document for Mongolian applicants.

Permitted vs. Prohibited Activities

  • Medical check-ups (Short-term).

  • Visiting friends or relatives.

  • Short-term business meetings.

❌ Prohibited Activities:

  • Working illegally: Working in construction, moving services, or agriculture without a work visa is strictly prohibited.

  • Used Car Business: Buying cars for export as a business requires a Business Manager Visa, not a Tourist Visa.

  • Overstaying the visa limit.

Japan E-Tourist Visa FAQ for Mongolia Citizens

Can I apply individually without an agency?

No. Under current regulations, Mongolian citizens must apply through an authorized travel agency. You cannot submit an application directly to the MOFA site yourself. Our platform facilitates this mandatory process.

Can I work part-time (Arubaito) with this visa?

No. This is a Tourist Visa. Working part-time is illegal and will lead to deportation. If you wish to work (e.g., as a Technical Intern Trainee), you must apply for a different visa type via a sending organization.

Do I need to print the visa?

No. A screenshot or PDF printout is invalid. You must display the "Visa Issuance Notice" on your mobile screen with a live internet connection at the immigration counter.

Is the visa valid for multiple entries?

The standard E-Tourist Visa processed via this channel is typically for a Single Entry. If you need to travel frequently, you would need to apply for a Multiple Entry Visa physically at the Embassy in Ulaanbaatar.
